We May Have a Problem on Sunday…
- Updated: January 28, 2013
Well this is a legitimate problem. One that I’ve looked forward to having since I moved to The City… Where the hell do I watch the 49ers win the Super Bowl?
This is possibly the greatest problem to have in late January / early February. Typically I’d spend this time counting down the days until pitchers and catchers report, trying to figure out if a Scottsdale run is in order. But, just as the Niners (and my last place Fantasy Football team) had to wait until November for the Giants to win the World Series, now the shoe is on the other foot, or some metaphor that makes sense.
The way I see it, I have about three options…
Option #1: Bar
Game 4 of the most recent World Series was watched from a bar in North Beach, where drinks were plentiful (as was the tab, but hey, you only win the World Series every other year, right?) and the energy was high. High fives were abundant amongst strangers-turned-friends. And oh, the fun that filled the streets after Romo threw that final pitch! But there’s something about the Super Bowl that has more of a “house party” feel. But THIS is San Francisco and I live here now! What a problem to have…
Option #2: House Party
No, you’re not invited. But I want to watch every single snap, every single Harbaugh challenge (and subsequent upholding of the call followed by his reaction), every super expensive/hilarious commercial, every replay in super slo mo 360 whatever, every everything. The only way to really have control of this is to sit in front of a huge TV and hold the remote. Hopefully there will be a bunch of food and drink too. And then as soon as I order my Sports Illustrated commemorative whatever, I can run into the streets and have a stranger pour champagne on my head.
Option #3: F it, I’m flying to New Orleans
Flights from the Bay are about $1,500, tickets will be another $2,000(?). Food, lodging, beverages, and beads will be another $500 (minimum)… SO for a cool $4,0000 I could sit in a crappy seat, alone… but be there. Imagine how smug I could be forever. Casually ask the common folk where they watched the match and when they return the question, I’ll simply say “Oh, I was there.” And then smack the papers he is holding and run off laughing. Or perhaps, completely out of nowhere, I can insert into conversations:
Me: “Oh that reminds me of the time I went to New Orleans to see the Niners win their 6th Super Bowl.”
Other Guy: “Tyler, we were talking about the fiscal cliff.”
Me: Smack the papers he is holding and run off laughing.
Either way, the other guy sucks and no matter where you watch the game the Niners are going to win the Super Bowl. Probably the most important considerations for the game are who you are with, how big is the screen (size does matter), and will there be snacks.
Good luck in your quest to find the perfect viewing situation and GO NINERS!
