Bay Area Bias

Golf is Awesome and I’m Excited for the US Open

Easter Sunday was a beautiful day. The weather in The City was a crisp and clear, perfect for those far-more-motivated-than-I (right now, at least) who ran The Other Half Marathon. But even more perfect was the weather for sitting inside and celebrating Easter the way God intended: on the couch with good company, good food, and flipping back and forth between the Masters and the Giants (Comcast owes me a not broken DVR still). With the Giants up 6-0, clearly didn’t need to worry about Cain or the ‘pen blowing it… right???

But soon (see countdown below) the abstract men who dazzled us from Augusta will be right here in The City. Here is my short list of things to look forward to that week:

Low scores are actually a good thing

The Giants and A’s have traditionally been teams that score very few runs. With low scores now engrained in The City’s DNA you are sure to see some record setting golf played. In 1973 Johnny Miller shot an 8-under in the U.S. Open’s final round. I think it’s safe to say someone will shoot 10-under or better. Fact.

Golf Pro Pub Crawls

The biggest decision you’ll have to make is which pub crawl to go on (maybe the official Bay Area Bias one? Wait, that’s just me sitting on my couch with a keg). Up and down Polk, all over the Marina, and everywhere else you’ll see drunken guys in plaid pants, polos, visors, and my personal favorite: the sweater vest. Anyone who can pull off a half decent Payne Stewart drinks for free. It really doesn’t matter where you are; the fact is 70% of The City will look like the Marina on a typical Saturday night.

Betting

I have a friend who once bet on the WNBA. In no way does that indicate a gambling problem and in no way is that relevant right now. I just think it’s funny. But whether it’s calling “your guy” (we’ll call him Ricky) to place wagers or just making a slap bet on whether or not Lefty will hit a rail or not, having an event so close will provide ample opportunities to make wild and potentially lucrative bets. My prediction: Rory Mcilroy wins by 2 strokes. And of course, in no way does Bay Area Bias endorse anything illegal. Always pay taxes… and recycle.

Parking

Actually parking will suck. I’m not moving my car the entire month of June, just to be safe.

What about you, what are you looking forward to when the U.S. Open is hosted by The Olympic Club June 14-17?
