Our Top 5 Twitter-ers
- Updated: July 7, 2011
A new favorite of mine is sitting in front of a Giants game, Hi-Def of course, and with my iPad in my lap following along with Twitter to see what folks are saying about the game. Say what you will about Twitter, but a nice little community is established when conversations bounce around. Access between our followers and people Bay Area Bias follows enables a back-and-forth via Twitter, allowing a dialogue to ensue as the game develops. But some Twitter-ers are better than others, and among the 71 folks we follow – we thought we’d pick our Top 5 to help you sift through some of the Twitterverse debris.
1. @DamonBruce – The host of the Damon Bruce Show on KNBR 1050 is always good for a topical tweet that taps the heart of the Bay Area sports fan. Not only does he co-mingle with his followers better than most, he’s funny, relevant, and cuts to the chase. Like his latest: “If any Yankee homered in the 14th inning & it was his 2nd of the night, ESPN.com would gush over it. No mention of last nights Giants win.” Our thoughts exactly, D-Bruce. And a large part of the reason Bay Area Bias exists!
2. @Finnerty’s – The New York City pub has planted its Giants flag in the East Village and reps the Bay Area well. With just 492 followers, Finnerty’s sends some of the funniest tweets, and the fact that they’re often sent in the early hours of the morning from the east coast as the Giants are playing make them that much more valued. At almost 2 AM on a Wednesday night, Finnerty’s tweeted, “That is a wonky windup,” right before Schierholtz hit the game winning home run off the submarine style Padre reliever in the 14th inning. Finnerty’s helps the Giants Nation grow.
3. @dandibley – With Dibs out of KNBR and onto his new gig at 95.7 FM, we are getting a tempered Dan Dibley who joins a new show that doesn’t allow him to be the snarky Dibs we loved on KNBR. As he tweeted on July 1, “Bochy doing his Michael Clarke Duncan, about to shower the umpire with flies from his mouth,” isn’t the type of verbiage we get from Dibs on the FM dial. But on Twitter? It’s the good ol’ Dibs who jinxes no-hitters.
4. @extrabaggs – Andrew Baggarly covers the Giants better than anyone, including John Shea and Hank Schulman, and his tweets are a big reason for that. Often he will tweet during the game from the press box what others may be noticing about the game that the announcers aren’t picking up. And links to his pre-game and post-game reports are always tweeted, making all the details of the game an easy click away. And Baggs isn’t afraid to stray from the journalistic approach, as he tweeted on July 3: “3 HBP and 2 wild pitches for Rick Porcello. Even Jonathan Sanchez is sitting back and thinking, “Jeez, this guy’s all over the place.”
5. @byronjr23 – Tom Tolbert joined the Twitterverse not too long ago and has been pounding out random, sometimes nonsensical tweets. But they’re great because maybe no Bay Area sports personality lets us look into their lives quite like Mr. T. For example: “How great is that. Watching a show on Hobo spiders, of the genus funnel spiders and up pops a IHOP commercial featuring funnel cakes!” Makes us feel less bad about our lazy days on the couch watching mindless TV, because Mr. T does it too!
